You have a beautiful childhood in Mexico City. You meet the girl. Life is perfect.
She relocates to Manhattan. You follow. Each day you dress in elegant suits and walk down
Fashion Avenue...living large in Manhattan. With the girl. Who would’ve guessed?
Eight months later you and the girl break up. Your job seems boring. You have no friends
in this lonely city. Your life completely lacks direction. You feel numb as you walk down
Fashion Avenue. You notice how gritty the street looks. You pick up your laundry. Your
favorite dress shirts, a $300 pair of jeans, and some Polo shirts. Folded, no, smashed and
wrinkled in a transparent bag stamped:
“WE LOVE OUR CUSTOMERS.”
You ask yourself, “Do these guys really love me?” You are ready for someone to love you.
But your clothes tell you otherwise.

AH HA!
You realize that this is the pain you must endure to hit on a great business idea. And
what is the idea? To simply do a better job than this entrenched industry of 1300 shops in
Manhattan that define the status quo of laundry and dry-cleaning. 1300 shops dedicated to
cleaning the dirt in your clothes without really considering the clothes themselves. You
imagine a modern, clean (as in eco-clean), attractive (as in fashionable) space filled
with people who love and respect clothes. And you could pick up people's clothes every
week. All their dirty clothes. And after you restore them, you could deliver their clothes
back to them.
FOR A FLAT FEE.
There would finally be a place that revives wardrobes, infusing them with the energy of
that first wearing. People would give themselves permission to get dirty. And the world
would be a better place.
YOU JUST CREATED SLATE NYC.
